Full-Time Police Officer

The Village of West Jefferson is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. Applicants will be required to maintain public peace, protect lives and property, prevent crime and arrest violators of the law, as well as enforcing local, state and federal statutes. All Police Officers are under the direct supervision of a Sergeant or Senior Officer in Charge.

The ability to generate detailed reports, using proper grammar and spelling, is required, as well as the ability to appear in court projecting a professional image, and assist the prosecutor in case preparation. Candidates must demonstrate safe and effective use of firearms and other weapons, safe operation of a motor vehicle at high speeds and the use of standard police equipment, as well as the knowledge of CPR and first aid. Successful candidates will display a pattern of self-motivation, initiative and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

Qualified candidates need to be at least 21 years of age and have a minimum of a High School diploma or GED, and must be currently certified under the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy. A minimum of two years of experience in a law enforcement environment is preferred. Candidates must have no criminal background, and a good driving record, with a valid Ohio driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one. Officers must have the ability to work with a diverse population and the general public and be willing to work any shift, weekend, and holidays, and be available on-call to respond to after-hour emergencies if needed. Successful candidates will have the ability to work for prolonged periods of time in a variety of situations, including those that are unpleasant, dangerous or life-threatening.

This position has a pay range of $28.62 per hr.-$35.67 per hr. depending on experience.
